Bhubaneswar: A youth died after coming in contact with a live wire during immersion of the Ganesh idol at Jagannath village under Purusottampur police station in Ganjam district, on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Pabitra Sahu. The mishap also left another youth Manoj Pradhan injured. Manoj is presently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to sources, a group of youths including Pabitra and Manoj were taking out a procession rally for the immersion of Lord Ganesh when the duo were trying to lift an electric wire hanging from an electric pole with the help of a stick to ensure smooth conduct of immersion ceremony. As a result, the electric wire snapped and fell on Pabitra and Manoj.
Both victims suffered severe electrical burns and were rushed to Bhatakumarada Hospital, where Pabitra was pronounced dead. Manoj’s condition was critical, and he has been shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.
Purusottampur police, meanwhile, began an investigation into it.
