Bhubaneswar: A youth undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation center in the Jharpada area in Bhubaneswar died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday. While the management of the rehab center has said that the youth succumbed to ailment, his family has alleged that he was murdered.
The deceased has been identified as Prashant Nayak of Nayagarh district in Odisha.
According to reports, Prashant was undergoing de-addiction treatment at the rehab center for the last six months. He breathed his last today morning while undergoing treatment. However, his family alleged that he was beaten to death for non-payment of the rehab center dues.
Prashant’s mother alleged that they had already deposited Rs 2 lakh at the rehab center but the authorities demanded Rs 7,000 more. As the family could not afford the treatment charges, his mother requested the rehab management to discharge her son. However, her request was turned down and more money was demanded.
The rehab authorities called Prashant’s family on Thursday saying he had fallen unconscious and was taken to the Unit-6 hospital. However, when they reached the hospital, they were informed that Prashant had breathed his last while being taken to the hospital.
Now, Prashant’s family has alleged that he was thrashed to death by the rehab authorities for non-payment of dues.
