**Cuttack**: In yet another case of delay in providing emergency ambulance services in time, a youth lost his life after waiting for the 108 ambulance for three long hours in a critical condition here on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Sibram Bhuniya, a resident of Kabisurya Nagar in Ganjam district.
According to reports, Sibaram was attempting suicide by hanging himself from a tree at Nuabazar area, however local people reached at the spot and tried to rescue him. But by that time Sibaram had become critical.
The locals immediately contacted the 108 ambulance service, but even after several calls, the ambulance allegedly failed to reach in time.
It was also shocking to note that, as it appears in the mobile visuals shot by onlookers at the spot, that after the rescue attempt failed the locals waited for three long hours only for the ambulance and did not make any attempt on their own to take him to hospital. Instead, some of them shot his visuals on their mobile which many believe is over dependence on ambulance service even in such situations where their prompt service could also have saved the youth’s life. Worth mentioning, that the SCB Medial College and Hospital was hardly 15 mins drive from the spot.
Following the incident, local people have expressed their displeasure about the service which was launched by the State Government to save the lives of the serious patients by taking them to hospital in time.
Worth mentioning, 108 Ambulance under the much-vaunted State-run ambulance services has been repeatedly failing to respond to such desperate calls leaving the lives of patients in danger.
