Nabarangpur: The Court of District & Sessions Judge, Nabarangpur today sentenced a youth to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a married woman this year in January.
The court after recording the statements of eight witnesses convicted one Sudhir Harijan of Kosagumuda area and sentenced him to undergo RI for 10 years for raping a married woman of the same area on January 26 this year.
The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on Harijan. On default to pay the fine Harijan has to undergo RI for another year, the court ordered. Harijan who was out on bail has been sent to jail again.
According to proceedings of the case, on finding the married woman alone in her house on the night of January 26 this year, Harijan had forcibly entered her house. After gagging the woman, Harijan raped her.
The next day, on January 27, the woman lodged a complaint against Harijan at the Kosamgumuda police station. Following the complaint accused Harijan was arrested by the Kosagumuda police and forwarded to court.
