Bhubaneswar: A 25-year-old youth was hacked to death and dumped in a paddy field at Kulemura Saleitikra village under Laikera police station in Jharsuguda district on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as Rajat Rajhansa of Kulemura Saleitikra village.

According to reports, a quarrel broke out between him and another person over a trivial issue, which escalated into a violent clash. Rajat allegedly slapped an elderly person, who was later joined by his son and some associates. They took Rajat to a nearby farmhouse, brutally assaulted him, and then dumped his body in a field.

Laikera police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the body to Mundrajor Community Health Centre for post-mortem and detained two suspects for questioning. Multiple injury marks were found on Rajat’s body.

The incident has sparked tension in the locality for which one platoon of police force has been deployed there to maintain law and order.
