Bhubaneswar: The Saheed Nagar Police on Monday arrested a youth for allegedly threatening a woman with an acid attack over a one-sided love affair near the Sai Temple in Saheed Nagar.
The accused has been identified as Sunil Kumar Sethi.
According to sources, the victim and the accused had been acquaintances for about a year. The victim alleged that after four months of friendship, Sethi got married to another woman. However, post his marriage, he continued to harass her, expressing his desire to marry her despite her repeated refusals.
“He told me that he was forced into marriage by his family and insisted he only wanted to be with me. I clearly refused, telling him to stay with his wife. In response, he began blackmailing me. He shared my photos on various social media platforms and even sent them to my brothers,” the victim said while speaking to reporters.
The situation escalated today when Sethi arrived at her workplace with three accomplices.
“I had just closed my shop and was heading for lunch when Sunil and his friends approached me. Sunil and one of them were carrying acid, while the others held rods. I shouted for help and some locals rushed to the spot. Seeing the crowd, the accused fled. I immediately informed my brothers, and we filed a complaint with the police,” she added.
Acting on the complaint, Saheed Nagar Police reached the location and apprehended Sunil Sethi.
Further investigation is underway.
