Subarnapur: A youth was killed after being hit by a speeding bus in between Bisipada and Nayakpada under Birmaharajpur police limits on Subarnapur-Sambalpur road today.
The bus which had no passengers overturned after hitting the youth. The deceased has been identified as Abhimanyu Sahu.
According to reports, the bus which was returning from Birmaharajpur at a very high speed hit the youth standing on the roadside while allowing a vehicle to pass. The bus after hitting the youth lost control and skidded off the road.
The driver and helper of the bus have managed to flee the spot after the mishap.
Tension mounted in the area following the accident as villagers demanding compensation for the deceased youth’s family blocked the Subarnapur-Sambalpur road.
Birmaharajpur police have reached the spot and are persuading the locals to vacate the road blockade.
