Balasore : In a tragic incident, a lightning strike killed an 18-year-old youth and injured four family members while they were working in a field at Natapada under Soro block in Balasore district today.

The deceased, Harish Malik, 18, and the injured – Subhadra Malik, 17, Mataji Malik, 45, Bhagyalakshmi Malik, 36, and Jyotpriya Malik, 20 – were from the same village.

The family had gone to work together, seeking shelter from the rain when the lightning struck. Local residents and family members rescued them and took them to Soro Hospital, where Harish was declared dead. Police registered a case, seized the body for autopsy, and initiated an investigation.

This incident follows a series of lightning strikes that killed 10 people in separate incidents across the state on Saturday evening.
