Papdahandi: Armed miscreants attacked and killed a youth in Barwada village under Kodinga police limits of Nabarangpur district late Monday night on suspicion of an extramarital affair. The Kodinga police have detained five youths in connection with the crime and are interrogating them.
The deceased youth has been identified as Umakant Harijan of Kenduguda village under Maidalpur police limits.
According to reports, Umakant had gone to Barwada village last Saturday with a thresher machine for paddy harvesting. On Monday night, he went to a nearby person’s house for some work. There, some people caught him and beat him up over alleged extramarital affair. Subsequently, he was found a critical condition on Tuesday and rushed to the Papadahandi Community Health Center (CHC) where the doctors declared him dead.
The deceased’s brother, Chainu Harijan, reported the matter to the Kodinga police who reached the hospital with a scientific team and started an investigation.
The family members and relatives of the deceased reached the hospital and created a ruckus demanding compensation. They reportedly did not even agree to the autopsy of the body.
Kodinga police station IIC, Papadahandi Tehsildar Tapan Nayak and Papadahandi police station IIC Deepak Kumar Jena reached and appeased the victim’s family members and sent to Nabarangpur for autopsy.
Five people from Barwada village have been detained by the police.
