Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old married woman was allegedly raped in her house by an intruder in the district headquarters town of Baripada late in the evening on Tuesday.
Basing on the complaint lodged by the victim at the Baripada Town police station today, police have arrested the accused identified as Siba Shankar Barik alias Rocky (24) of Purnachandrapur area under Baripada municipal limits.
Police have registered an FIR under sections 450, 506 and 376 of the IPC in this connection.
As per the complaint lodged by the victim with the police, accused Rocky on Tuesday tresspassed into her rented house at around 9 PM in the evening while she was busy cooking in the kitchen, forcibly gagged her before raping. The accused had threatened her with her life if she shouted.
He had fled the spot after raping her.
Later the victim informed her neighbours and relatives about the incident.
The victim after discussing the incident with her husband lodged a written complaint in this regard at the Town police station.
It may be mentioned here that the victim’s husband serves in the Defence Department and is posted outside the State.
Baripada Town police station Inspector In-Charge Birendra Senapati while confirming the arrest, has informed that the accused was arrested within half-an-hour of receipt of the victim’s complaint.
