Bhadrak: The Bhadrak District and Sessions Court on Thursday sentenced Aditya Kumar Raut alias Gudu (22) to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for the murder of Bidyadhar Majhi alias Bidu of Aharapada village in 2022.
In case of non-payment of the fine, Aditya will undergo an additional six months of imprisonment, the court ruled.
The conviction pertains to a murder that occurred on July 4, 2022, following a trivial dispute during a wedding feast.
According to case details, a relative of Bidyadhar Majhi was getting married at Biju Kalyan Mandap in Bhadrak Municipality, where Aditya was among the guests. When the mutton served at the feast ran out, Aditya protested, leading to an argument with Bidyadhar.
Later that night, in a fit of rage, Aditya waylaid Bidyadhar at Bijegangadharapur Chhak as he was returning home and attacked him with a sharp knife, inflicting grievous injuries. Though Bidyadhar was rushed to Bhadrak Hospital, he succumbed to his wounds.
Following the incident, police registered a case under Section 302 IPC at Bhadrak Rural Police Station, arrested Aditya, and sent him to judicial custody, where he remained as an undertrial until the conviction.
