Baripada: A 28-year-old youth was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his grandmother at Baunsakhantia village under Kuliana police station in Mayurbhanj district.
Mayurbhanj additional District judge Satyanarayan Patra also imposed Rs 50,000 fine on the convict Laxaman Tudu. In case of default in payment of fine, he has to undergo six months more imprisonment.
It is to be noted that Laxman and his maternal grandfather Mandani Hembram had earlier had a family feud. Around which there were frequent fights and riots. On November 19, 2021 at around 12:30 a.m, a family quarrel escalated. In the fight, Laxman took a sickle and matchet and attacked his grandmother beheading her on the spot.
Villagers saw him walking on the road with the blood-stained weapon. A relative filed a complaint at Kuliana police station. The police registered a case in connection with the case and arrested the accused grandson.
The court pronounced the verdict based on the statement of 54 witnesses, medical report and police investigation report.
