Bhubaneswar: A youth allegedly set a betel shop on fire at Mahula market under Chandaka police limits late last night after the shopkeeper asked him to clear Rs 125 debt.
According to sources, Sada Swain of Madhupur had bought stationery items worth Rs 125 from Brundaban Sahu’s shop. Swain had promised to pay Rs 125 as soon as possible. A few days later when Sahu asked Swain to clear the debt, an argument ensued between the duo.
On late Tuesday night, Swain set Sahu’s shop on fire and reduced it to ashes. However, the whole act of Swain was recorded on CCTV.
Based on the CCTV footage, villagers handed over Swain to police who have detained the accused for further investigation.
Police, meanwhile, began a probe into the matter.
