Dhenkanal: Two miscreants allegedly opened fire at a bike-borne youth after intercepting him near Nuabag Sani temple under Hindol police limits, on Monday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Subas Sahu, a resident of Mahalunda village.
Locals present on the spot, rescued Sahu, an employee of a financial company on finding him writhing in pain after receiving the gunshot and admitted him to Hindol Hospital where doctors declared him dead, sources said.
Police, however, nabbed one of the two miscreants when he was trying to flee. On the other hand, another miscreant reportedly managed to evade police arrest.
It is learnt from the police that the detained accused belonged to a different state. A gun, live bullets, armed weapons and a mobile phone have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
Police, meanwhile, formed a team and sealed the roads to nab the accused.
