Bhadrak: In a tragic incident, a young man from West Bengal sustained severe burn injuries after attempting to commit suicide by jumping from a high-voltage power tower in Bhadrak district on Wednesday.
The youth, identified as Bamapada, climbed a 33-KV power tower near DI Square in Dhamra town early in the morning. Local residents who spotted him quickly alerted the authorities. A crowd gathered and tried to calm him down, urging him to climb down safely and offering to help resolve his problems. Bamapada, however, expressed his desire to end his life.
Before the police could reach the scene, Bamapada began climbing down the tower. Unfortunately, he came into contact with a live wire, lost consciousness, and hung from the tower for a while before falling from a height of 50 feet.
A team from Dhamra police station soon arrived and rushed Bamapada to the community health center in Basudevpur. His condition was reported to be critical.
According to sources, Bamapada, who worked as a driver, had stopped going to work in recent days and seemed mentally disturbed, wandering aimlessly in the area. The incident has raised concerns about his mental health and well-being.
