Youth Swept Away In Nagavali River In Front Of Mother In Rayagada

Rayagada: In a heart-wrenching incident on Wednesday, a 32-year-old youth was swept away by the strong current in the Nagavali River in front of his mother in Rayagada while immersing Lord Ganesh’s idol in the river.

Rayagada Fire Service personnel have launched a search operation to rescue the missing youth. The missing youth has been identified as Srinivas Ashok Kumar of Mankadjhola village under Rayagada police limits. Srinivas was working at the JK Paper Mills at Jaykaypur.

According to reports, in the afternoon Srinivas along with his mother had come for immersion of Lord Ganesh’s idol in river Nagavali near Chekaguda.

While his mother waited on the bank of the river, Srinivas immersed the idol and returned to the bank. On finding that some of the articles used in the puja remained to be immersed he again entered the river. While entering the river he slipped and was swept away by the strong current in the river which is in spate.

On seeing her son being swept away Srinivas’ mother cried for help. Some people who were on the bridge heard her cries for help and informed the Fire Service.

Immediately, Fire Service personnel reached the spot and launched a search and rescue operation for the missing youth.

Missing youth Srinivas remained untraceable at the time of filing of this report.
