Youth Trampled To Death

Balasore: A youth was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Purnachandrapur village under Rasgovindpur police station in Mayurbhanj district, late Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Hemant Kumar Jena, alias Kunu Jena, the son of Rajendra Jena, a resident of Purnachandrapur village.

According to reports, a herd of 18 elephants from Jharkhand had been residing in the Amarda forest in Mayurbhanj district. In search of food, the elephants entered the fields at night to feed on paddy.

At around 9:40 pm on Monday, Hemant was in the field when he encountered one of the elephants feeding on the paddy. Tragically, the wild elephant trampled Hemant, leading to his death on the spot.
