Angul: In a bizarre and dramatic incident, a 25-year-old man walked into the Angul District Headquarters Hospital this evening carrying a live cobra in one hand and a cloth tied around a snakebite wound on the other — sending hospital staff into a panic.
The youth, identified as Bubul Bhoi of Kaliakata village under Chhendipada Nishan Police limits, was reportedly bitten by a 4-foot-long cobra earlier in the day. The snake had been hiding under a sack of paddy at a relative’s house when Bubul attempted to rescue it. In the process, he was bitten on the right hand due to what sources described as a moment of carelessness.
Instead of seeking immediate treatment, Bubul first filmed a video of the snake. He then visited a local healthcare facility but was soon referred to the District Headquarters Hospital due to the severity and potentially life-threatening nature of a cobra bite.
When he arrived at the hospital carrying the live cobra, the scene caused alarm among medical staff and other patients. The snake was still active, and the staff reportedly kept their distance until help arrived.
On being informed, snake rescuer Aditya Behera reached the hospital and safely captured the snake, preventing further panic. Bubul is currently undergoing treatment, and his condition is being monitored.
While the situation ended without further harm, wildlife experts and doctors have cautioned the public against handling venomous snakes or delaying treatment after a bite, stressing that such actions can risk lives.
