Bhubaneswar: The body of a youth, who had gone missing after a car he was travelling in plunged into the Birupa River near Jagatpur’s Pandasahi area in Cuttack last night, was recovered on Thursday morning.
The deceased youth is Udit Sahu, a resident of Lingipur under Dhauli police station in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, the car plunged into the Birupa River after the vehicle, reportedly guided by Google Maps, lost balance and slipped off the riverbank.
Soon after the mishap, Udit’s friend Anshuman was rescued by locals. However, fire services officials, scuba divers, and ODRAF personnel failed to rescue Udit despite launching a search operation.
The ODRAF and fire services teams today resumed the search operation and recovered Udit’s body from the river.
Meanwhile, Jagatpur police have seized the body and sent it to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for post-mortem examination.
