Bhubaneswar: School dropout rate has been 1.53% and 4.75% respectively in primary and upper primary schools in Odisha in the year 2019-20, informed School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash in the State Assembly today.
Replying to a question by BJP member Mukesh Mahaling, Dash said that Nabarangpur district had the highest percentage of dropout of 13.35 in upper primary school in the year 2019-20.
Malkangiri district ranked second with a dropout percentage of 13.00 and Gajapati district ranked third with 9.38 in upper primary schools in 2019-20, he added.
Besides, Khordha and Sambalpur districts had zero dropout percentage in both primary and upper primary schools in the year 2019-20, the Minister said.
Mid-day meals, uniforms, shoes, umbrellas, and bicycles are being provided by the government apart from several other measures to check the dropout rate in schools, the Minister said.
The Minister furnished a district-wise break-up of dropout percentage from 2015-16 to 2019-20 based on data extracted from Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE).
