**Bhubaneswar:** Soon after Jatni Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Sanjeeb Mohanty was trapped by Odisha Vigilance sleuths yesterday while accepting Rs 50,000 bribe from a person, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner made it loud and clear that no such corrupt practices will be tolerated at any cost.

In his media reactions today, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commisioner Satyajit Mohanty said, “Our policy is that of zero tolerance towards any police officer who acts illegally and with mala fide intention like taking bribe and harassing others.”

He informed, “In the last 2-3 weeks also some police officers have been suspended as allegations were received against them as they were collecting money from the vehicles. Whatever complaints will be received by us, we’ll act on them. Our zero tolerance has already been made it loud and clear to all our police officials.”

“The Vigilance report on the IIC who was trapped is awaited. We’ll take action accordingly. Such activities will not be entertained at any cost by Commissionerate Police,” the Police Commissioner warned.

He added, “The concerned officer is now under Vigilance interrogation. We’re waiting for the Vigilance report. We’re in touch with the Vigilance Department. As soon as the report is received, we’ll soon intitiate action against him.”

Notably, the State Vigilance yesterday arrested Jatni PS IIC police Sanjeeb Mohanty on charges of corruption and bribery. Mohanty was caught by the Vigilance officials while he was accepting an illegal gratification of Rs 50,000 from one Sumit Kumar Mohanty of Jatni.

Sumit was paying the money to the IIC for not implicating him in criminal cases under major Sections of the IPC, an official of the Vigilance Cell said.

Locals of the area created a chaos and hurled abuses while Mohanty was being escorted into the anti-corruption agency’s vehicle.

However, the officials managed to take him away before the situation aggravated.

The sleuths also conducted a search at the Jatni PS which comes under the jurisdiction of Twin City Police Commissionerate and also the residence of Mohanty.
