Double-Amputee Biker From Odisha Continues Defying Perceptions On Disability

Malkangiri: Gota Satish Kumar, double-amputee record holder solo motorcycle rider from Rayagada in Odisha, continues to defy perceptions of people on ability and disability.

Kumar, who had lost both his legs in a train accident has been surviving on artificial limbs. However, news items showing able-bodied people committing suicide on a daily basis have always concerned him.

In order to give the message, “Ability and disability are human perceptions,” he had embarked on a solo motorcycle ride in 2016-17 and covered 50,000 km covering over 600 districts across 28 states in the country.

He was presently on a South India tour for the last 20 days but was forced to return to his hometown Rayagada due to the Covid-19 pandemic. On his way home he stopped for refreshment at Malkangiri.

Kumar said that a person is responsible for his or her own situation. “We should not think about what we don’t have but move forward with what we have. We are at the top among around 84 lakh living species in the world, which makes us winners.”
