Koraput: Jasoda Dalai of Charamula village in Borigumma block of Koraput district has been breaking the barriers of all disabilities, be it mentally or physically.
A Class VIII student of Narigam High School, Jasoda is the eldest among three children of Makar Dalai who is a mason by profession. She was born with deformed hands and body.
However, it has not deterred her spirit. Unable to read and write with either of her hands, she uses her legs for the purpose and is determined to pursue her education and be eligible for a good job in the future.
As she is unable to move on her own, her mother Neela Dalasi readies her for school and helps her to get into her tricycle. Her schoolmates come and enquire and help her reach school and back home.
Her younger sister Manasi is in Class VII and her brother Bikash is in Class V. Her family is trying their level best to support her realise her higher educational dreams. The villagers are also happy to see her enthusiasm.
Jasoda not only writes but also draws with her feet. She actively participates in all the events of the school. If she gets government support, Jasoda will be able to get a better education and land a good job, said the school Headmaster Balaji Panda.
