Koraput: While lockdown triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic forced people indoors, it rendered an opportunity to many for unleashing their latent creative skills.
A case in point is Koraput’s Mama Sahu who used waste and discarded stuff to create items that can be used in our daily lives. Mama, a native of Jeypore used the time at home to make bottles, vegetable bags, doormats, mirror frames and several other utility items.
Mama studies at a local college where the classes were held online. Being away from physical classes never acted as a deterrent for the young girl, nor did she get depressed being at home for so long. Today, after being successful in her endeavours, Mama wishes to commercialise her work and be an entrepreneur.
“The efforts have borne fruit. However, the next step to market my products remains unfulfilled because of the COVID restrictions. Once the market opens up, I will move out and try to educate people about these items. I am also eager to teach others about the art of transforming waste into useful products,” said Mama.
People of Jeypore and Mama’s family members are supporting the young girl and in all praises for her talent. Local residents have sought help from local administration to train young women on extra-curricular skills to make them self-reliant and ensure a steady flow of income.
