Malkangiri’s Podia CDPO Sets Example In Eradicating Malnutrition, Child Marriage

Malkangiri: The Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), ICDS Project, Podia in Malkangiri district has set an example in the eradication of malnutrition and child marriage in the region through regular awareness and other government initiatives.

Podia is a tribal-dominated area with a lack of communication facilities and awareness. Despite the difficulties, Podia Child Development Project Officer Bipala Kumari Sardar together with other functionaries have been able to implement the government initiatives in the region.

In order to check child marriage, the CDPO has conducted a survey in each and every village with help of Anganwadi workers, Supervisors, and local Sarpanches.

On the 22nd day of every month, Anganwadi workers along with adolescent girls are conducting a rally in the villages to spread awareness on child marriage. As a result, the girls are now raising their voices against child marriage.

The CDPO has also been able to check malnutrition. Around 10 to 20 children from severe acute malnutrition (SAM), moderate acute malnutrition (MAM), and severe underweight (SUW) categories are being sent to Nutrition Rehabilitation Center ( NRC) every month.

The CDPO in consultation with Podia Block Development Officer (BDO) has been able to roll out the initiatives of Odisha Livelihood Mission (OLM) to fulfill the target of the local Self Help Groups (SHG). It has also fulfilled its target under the MAMATA scheme.
