Cuttack: Age is just a number for Niranjan Patnaik of Madhusudan Nagar in Cuttack district of Odisha. At the age of 97, he is more fit than any person half his age.
Born on October 21, 1925, Niranjan had joined the Forest Service as Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) in 1946 and retired in 1983. Even 39 years after his retirement, he has managed to keep himself healthy and active.
The secret behind his good health is a regular Yoga practice which he had started almost 21 years back. Niranjan practices Yoga on an average of 1 to 2 hours a day.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, he used to walk 3 km daily on the river embankment, but now continues his morning walk near the house and roof. As a result, he has been able to keep himself healthy and fit.
Not only this, he is able to fulfill his responsibilities and goes to buy groceries and other items from the market at this age. Inspired by their father-in-law’s yoga practice, his two daughters-in-law also join him.
Niranjan, who is at his prime even at this age, is expected to inspire other senior citizens.
