Bhawanipatna: 2019 musical drama Gully Boy about an amateur rapper changed how the genre was seen in India and it helped several independent artists follow the protagonist to express their thoughts in rhythm.
One such desi Gully Boy is 27-year-old Duleswar Tandi of Kalahandi district. He veers away from the traditional look of a rapper but once beatbox starts playing he easily transforms into rapper Dule Rocker.
In his videos that recently went viral made its way to playback singer and music composer Vishal Dadlani who was floored by the talent. Tweeting Dule’s videos, Vishal promised to help him in any way possible be it producing, recording, releasing his music. Urging him to get in touch, Vishal also tagged MD & CEO of Universal Music Group & EMI Music Devraj Sanyal and famed rappers such as Raftaar, Divine and Badshah.
This is incredible! @DuleRocker, if you need help producing/ recording/ releasing your music, get in touch. I'll do what I can. I'm sure we all will! @DevrajSanyal @raftaarmusic @VivianDivine @Its_Badshah check this fire out! https://t.co/vF7ed4JA5A

How Duleswar Tandi Became Rapper Dule Rocker
Duleswar is a science graduate from Kalahandi district and had migrated to Raipur, Chhattisgarh in search of work. He used to wipe tables and wash plates at a Raipur hotel for a living, had come back to his mudhouse at Borda village in March just a day before the nationwide lockdown was announced.
In the coming months, he saw his friends and fellow migrants making way back to his village and the nearby ones. Many of them returned a couple of months later, some by hopping onto a bus or walking or by cycling. Sitting at home, without work, and seeing the videos of migrant workers travelling in pitiable condition stoked the inner rage of Tandi.
In the angst, he turned to rap and found solace in beatbox.
Some of the tracks, like ‘Hashtag Farmer’ (bus jumla hi jumla hai, system ye khokla hai) and ‘Doctor’ (amar Ram-Allah-Jisshu gyan daktar), take up the difficulties faced by specific sections of the society. However, it is his latest track, ‘Sarkar jabab de’, that has gone viral with more than 400 likes on Facebook and over 100 shares on the site.
His latest track is on the current conflict between India and China where he lauds Indian Army. Dule Rocker raps that only boycotting Chinese products won’t help, rather we need to keep patriotism alive in our hearts.
