Pregnant Anganwadi Worker On Mission To Protect Bonda Tribe From Covid-19

Malkangiri: An Ananwadi worker who is six months pregnant is on a mission to keep Coronavirus at bay in Bonda ghat villages in Malkangiri district. Her pregnancy is no deterrent for Jyoti Badanayak of Khairaput block to spread awareness among people of the Bonda (tribe) community about Covid-19.

The courage, passion, and love of this expecting mother for her people, are unmatched. She is doing a noble and praiseworthy job amid a scary surge in daily Covid cases in Odisha, to educate Bonda people about protecting themselves from Covid-19. Jyoti is sloganeering in the ghats at an elevation of 5,000 feet above sea level, to create awareness among the people of Andrahala and Mudulipada panchayats, dominated by the Bondas.

People of this region do not understand Odia therefore, the assistance of Anganwadi Didi, Jyoti is sought by the local administration for Covid awareness. And the young and energetic worker has always responded to the call of duty. She said, “Last year, no one suffered from Corona in our region. I will make sure that this year also no one is affected by the disease.”

“Her dedication has earned heaps of praises. The manner in which she is treading the hilly terrains to reach the most inaccessible pockets is exemplary. If our villages and the Bonda community here are Corona-free today, it is mainly because of Jyoti Didi’s efforts,” the locals said.
