Rayagada: Leaving his 11-year-long job, a software engineer from Rayagada district of Odisha is now able to provide livelihood to around 40 families by switching to farming.
Satya Prabin, a native of Amalabhata village in Rayagada, had been working at Kuala Lumpur in Malayasia after completing his B Tech in 2008. He was earning around Rs 2 lakh per month but decided to come back and start something of his own in his home district.
In 2020, he took 35 acres of land on lease near Jinjilibadi village and started cultivation on it using new technology. Within a short span of time, he was able to give direct and indirect employment to 40 persons.
Prabin’s father also used to take other people’s land on lease and support his family with whatever he earned from farming. He was not acquainted with the technological advancements in farming.
Equipped with his father’s knowledge and help of new technology learnt from YouTube and other sources, Prabin has been able to become a successful farmer. The workers who work for him are also very happy as they are able to support their families well by getting work from him every day.
Prabin’s efforts have been widely appreciated by the local people. He hopes to continue to expand his business and provide more employment opportunities in the future if he gets help from the government.
