Transgender Turns Last Companion For Covid-19 Victims In Angul

Angul: At a time when family members and relatives are not coming forward to perform the last rites of Covid-19 victims, a transgender in Angul district of Odisha has become the last companion of such corpses.

Chinmayi Das, a transgender from Jarapada in Angul district, has till date performed the last rites of around 20 Covid-19 victims without taking help from anyone for such generosity.

Once neglected and disgusted in society, Chinmayi is now said to be an angel for all Covid-19 patients and relatives. Not just cremation, Chinmayi is also providing medical care to all types of patients who come to the district.

Whether it’s collecting oxygen, arranging an ambulance, or standing in line to check on a Covid-19 patient’s health, Chinmayi is sought after for all things. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also appreciated Chinmayi for providing the service.

“Extending a helping hand to those at risk during this Covid-19 pandemic is real service. I myself am disciplined and taking all the precautionary measures and engaging myself in the service of the people,” said Chinmayi.
