9 Labourers Including Women Killed, Several Injured

Bhubaneswar: Condoling the deaths and sympathizing with the bereft family members of the deceased persons as well as expressing grave concerns for the injured persons in the fatal road accident in Gajapati district on Tuesday morning hours, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the bereft kin of the nine persons killed.
As per a press note released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Tuesday evening, the Chief Minister also ordered for free medical treatment of the injured persons and wished their speedy recovery. Order has been issued that all the medical expenses will be borne by the State Government.
Notably, nine labourers got killed and over eight injured when a tipper carrying them met with an accident at Luhajhar Ghat.
The truck loaded with bricks was on its way to Paralakhemundi from Gumma block along with the labourers when its driver lost control while negotiating a turn and the vehicle overturned and fell down the ghats.
Five labourers died on the spot whereas two succumbed at the District Headquarters Hospital in Parlakhemundi, police said.
Police along with locals had rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
