Berhampur: The driver of the bus which had caught fire after coming in contact with an 11kV live wire near Eakasingi under Golanthara police limits of Ganjam district on Sunday, leading to the death of 10 persons, was sent to three days judicial custody on Tuesday.
Silk City bus driver Gagan Bihari Nayak, who had been apprehended earlier in the case, was arrested and produced in the Berhampur Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court which sent him to three days judicial remand, informed Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra.

Reportedly, the bus carrying a group of 40 people was on its way to attend an engagement function in a nearby village when the fatal mishap took place. A suo motu case in this regard had been registered by Golanthara Police and the probe was headed by an ASP-rank official.
The matter aggravated and four engineers, including two from Berhampur Electrical Division-III and two from Ganjam RD Division, were suspended on charges of negligence of duty. Energy Minister Captain Dibya Sankar Mishra also informed that all wires hanging below 20 ft in the State will be identified and steps will be taken accordingly.
