**Cuttack: ** A case has been registered against Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debasish Samantaray at Badambadi Police Station for manhandling a relative of Odia CRPF jawan Manoj Behera martyred in the dastardly terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pulwama on February 14.
This was informed to media by Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh and he also informed that it would be transferred to Niali Police Station (PS) as the incident took place on February 16 under the Niali PS jurisdiction.
On the other hand, Congress activists today staged a demonstration at Badambadi Chhak protesting the misbehaviour shown towards the Pulwama attack martyr’s kin and demanded immediate arrest of the Barabati-Cuttack MLA as the incident has brought bad name to Odisha. Yesterday they had lodged an FIR against him at the Badambadi Police Station demanding action against the local MLA.
While the incident caught on camera went viral on social media the very next day, the MLA also apologized publicly for the incident soon after the public resentment.
Apologising for his action, the MLA has already stated that he had made the relative of martyr Manoj Behera to sit after he pushed Union Minister Jual Oram during guard of honour. But he had no intention of hurting anyone’s feelings.
Notwithstanding that, Azad News, a Pakistan-based TV channel also recently aired the same viral visuals.
Notably, Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debasish Samantaray’s such a behaviour drew public ire. Such an incident took place during the funeral of martyred CRPF Jawan Manoj Behera in his native village Ratanpur under Niali PS limits of Cuttack district on February 16.
On the contrary, ruling BJD spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb in his media reactions have said, “Debasish has already apologised and it is sheer politicking over the issue due to the upcoming general election.”
