Bhubaneswar: Deogarh MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi today attempted to drink sanitiser inside the Odisha Legislative Assembly while the House was in session today. The legislator committed the act alleging irregularities in the paddy procurement process and issues faced by farmers at Mandis.
Panigrahi tried to drink sanitiser while Supplies Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain was addressing the House today afternoon. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Arukha and a couple of other MLAs intervened and stopped Panigrahi from consuming the sanitiser.
Earlier, Panigrahi had threatened self-immolation protesting alleged apathy towards farmers. “I had no other alternative which is why I resorted to this extreme step to raise a protest. The Government needs to pay attention to the farmers’ issues,” he said.
“I am safe and healthy. Senior Minister and MLAs prevented me from consuming the liquid,” the Deogarh BJP legislator added.
