Bhubaneswar: Boden police arrested a person who allegedly pushed his 14-month-old son into a waterbody to drown and stabbed his 10-year-old daughter over a family dispute.
As per reports, Kishore Majhi, a resident of Kutiapada village under Boirgaon Panchayat under Boden police station limits in Nuapada , had married Jayanti Majhi from the same village 12 years ago. The couple has two daughters, Kamalakanti (10) and Laxmikanti (8), and a 14-month-old son, Chandan. Apart from working as wage labourers, both the husband and wife would occasionally go out of state to work as migrant labourers to support their families.
However, Kishore would frequently beat Jayanti for dowry. On Tuesday afternoon, another heated argument erupted between Kishore and Jayanti over dowry. Upset over it, Jayanti left for her maternal home leaving her three kids to live with Kishore.
On the fateful day, Kishore reportedly took the children to the forest, where the eldest daughter grew suspicious of his intentions and managed to flee the scene. Tragically, he administered some medicine to the 14-month-old son and pushed him into a water body. He then slit the throat of his middle daughter Lakshmi, who was rescued in critical condition and is being treated at Boden Health Center. Her condition is stated to be critical, with two fingers also severed.
After the gruesome incident came to the fore, police launched a manhunt for the accused and arrested him from a forest where he was hiding.
