Bhubaneswar: The severe winter chill prevailing in several parts of Odisha is likely to abate from Wednesday as the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has forecast a rise in night temperature by 3°C-4°C from today under the influence of western disturbances.
There will be no significant change in the minimum (night) temperature in the state till January 26.
The IMD has attributed the temporary respite from the winter chill to the influx of moisture-laden air caused by the activity of a western disturbance. The inducted cyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan in lower tropospheric levels and Western disturbance have brought warm and humid air into the state, thereby reducing the intensity of the cold, reports said.
However, dense fog is likely to occur in Odisha during this period. The weather office has issued a yellow warning for dense fog in Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara and Kandhamal reducing visibility to 50 meters in many areas.
Simiarly, shallow to moderate fog may occur during early morning hours at a few places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Khurda and at one or two places of Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi during the period.
The IMD has predicted clear skies for Bhubaneswar and its surroundings over the next 24 hours.
People have been advised to exercise caution while driving to avoid accidents.
