Bhubaneswar: As many as three bikers were killed as a speeding truck ran over them near Darlipali NTPC Power plant under Bhasma police limits in Sundargarh district late Thursday night.
The deceased have been identified as Ranjan Pradhan, Asish Bhoi and Rupak Dhua of the locality.
According to sources, the fly ash-laden truck ran over the youths travelling in a bike and fled the scene. Though the incident took place late last night, The matter came to the fore after locals found them lying dead on Friday morning and informed the police.
However, tension ran high in the locality following the road mishap. Locals held up traffic demanding compensation for the families of the deceased apart from putting curbs on illegal parking on the roadside.
The road blockade led to disruption of vehicular movements near the Super Thermal Power Station at Darlipali.
Upon being informed, police reached the spot and pacified the locals.
Police also sent the bodies for post-mortem and began a manhunt to nab the absconding truck driver.
