Bhubaneswar: It would be incredibly shortsighted, reckless, and self-indulgent for the Biden administration to sanction India, said US Senator Ted Cruz on Friday.
The statement came following reports that US President Joe Biden’s administration is contemplating imposing CAATSA sanctions against India.
“India is a critical ally across a number of areas. The US-Indian alliance has broadened and deepened in recent years. But under the Biden administration, it has gone bad to worse,” said Cruz.
The Biden administration is reportedly looking to apply the sanctions after India abstained again to vote at the UN General Assembly to censure Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
US President Joe Biden will decide whether to apply or waive sanctions on India under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) for the purchase of the S-400 missile defence system from Russia.
