Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance today arrested one Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, Junior Engineer (JE), office of BDO, Talcher for possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs 2,10,72,269 which he could not account for satisfactorily.
Sahoo was forwarded to court following his arrest today and he has been remanded to judicial custody till February 14.
According to a press note issued by the Vigilance, the disproportionate assets in possession of Sahoo constituted 680% of his known sources of income.
The anti-corruption agency on allegation of possession of disproportionate assets against Sahoo had conducted simultaneous house searches at four places in Angul and Dhenkanal district on January 31 by four teams led by DSsP, 8 Inspectors and other staff on the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.
During searches, the Vigilance unearthed one double-storeyed building at Kumunda and one single-storeyed building at Ambapal; 4 plots including 3 plots at Kumunda and 1 plot at Ambapal in Angul district; Bank deposits including Fixed deposits worth Rs 1,11,71,285 in name of Sahoo, his spouse, and his family members; 1 four-wheeler; 4 two-wheelers; Insurance deposits worth Rs 12,56,515; Gold ornaments weighing 261 gms worth Rs 10,44,000 and other movable and immovable properties, all totaling to over Rs 2.26 crore.
In this connection a case has been registered at the Vigilance police station, Cuttack against Sahoo and his spouse under section 13/2 read with 13(1)(b)/12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018.
