Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions prevailed in Odisha with the maximum temperature hitting 40 degrees Celsius or more in 15 places today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The western Odisha town of Sonepur was the hottest with a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius.
The other places that recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and above are Angul (42.7), Baripada (41.8), Jharsuguda (42.6), Keonjhargarh (40.1), Sambalpur (42.2), Sundargarh (42.5), Hirakud (40.3), Talcher (40.4), Bhawanipatna (41.2), Bolangir (43.0), Titilagarh (41.5), Nayagarh (40.0), Boudh (42.5) and Paralakhemundi (41.5).
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 and 38.0 degrees respectively.
The seaside town of Gopalpur remained the coolest place with a maximum temperature of 29.9 degrees Celsius followed by Paradip (31.9), and Puri (32.2).
The IMD has said that there will be no large change in maximum temperature during the next five days over the districts of Odisha.
Maximum temperature will be more than 40 degrees Celsius at many places and likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha during the next 4 to 5 days, the IMD warned.
The weatherman has advised taking precautionary measures for hot weather conditions while going outside during midday 12-3 PM.
