Bhubaneswar: With mercury levels soaring over the last two weeks, most places in Odisha have virtually turned into a boiling cauldron. As the IMD warned about heatwave situation worsening, Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena has issued an alert for Collectors to monitor the situation in their respective districts.
In an advisory issued to Collectors of Angul, Boudh, Bolangir, Deogarh, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Sonepur, the SRC stated quoting the IMD that heatwave condition is very likely to prevail in these districts till April 30.
“The IMD has issued a yellow warning for these districts. Collectors need to ensure that the IMD’s message is transmitted widely and effectively among the public. Avoid heat exposure, keep cool and avoid dehydration. Take precautionary measures while moving out during the afternoon. Elderly, sick, and children should avoid going out between 11 am and 3:30 pm.”
Maximum temperature likely to be above normal by 3 to 5 degrees Celcius at many places over districts of interior Odisha and likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 degrees at a few places of coastal Odisha during next 4 to 5 days, the IMD stated today. “Situation may be closely monitored and action as deemed necessary be taken,” the SRC’s advisory further read.
