Bhubaneswar: Scorching heatwave conditions prevailed in Odisha with 25 towns recording maximum day temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or more.
Boudh remained the hottest place in the State by recording the day’s highest temperature of 45 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day in a row.
Similarly, nine towns recorded maximum day temperatures of 43 degrees Celsius or more.
Besides, in five towns the mercury shot up to 44 degrees Celsius or more.
The towns that recorded 40 degrees Celsius or more are Cuttack (40.1), Bhubaneswar (40.2), Angul (44.7), Jharsuguda (43.4), Keonjhar (42.0), Sambalpur (42.8), Sundargarh (43.0), Hirakud (42.4), Bhawanipatna (42.5), Bolangir (44.0), Phulbani (41.6), Titilagarh (43.8), Talcher (44.5), Rayagada (40.2), Bhadrak (41.0), Jajpur (41.2), Dhenkanal (42.8), Deogarh (44.6), Bargarh (42.5), Nuapada (41.5), Kendrapada (40.2), Sonepur (43.6), Boudh (45.0), Nayagarh (41.5), and Paralakhemundi (42.0).
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack breached the 40 degrees mark by recording maximum temperatures of 40.2 and 40.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
The seaside town of Gopalpur remained the coolest place in the State by recording a maximum temperature of 31.1 degrees Celsius followed by Paradip at 32.8 and Puri at 33.8.
The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) latest weather bulletin has stated that there will be no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during the next 2 days and a slight decrease of about 2 degrees Celsius in the subsequent 2-3 days over the districts of Odisha.
Further, the maximum temperature is very likely to be more than 40 degrees Celsius and it is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in many places over districts of interior Odisha and likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius at a few places of coastal Odisha during next 2 days, the bulletin added.
The IMD has advised people to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 AM to 3 PM during the next 2 days.
