Bhubaneswar/Balasore: The propitious moments of holy Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Islam’s holy month of Ramadan also known as Ramzan, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Odisha today.
After a gap of two years, due to the pandemic, muslim brethren across the State offered special mass prayers in ‘Idgah’ (open grounds) and mosques, marking the culmination of the 30 days of rigorous fasting and austerity.
After offering ‘Namaaz’, they embraced each other rendering greetings of ‘Eid Mubarak’. Variety of traditional foods including seviyan were shared among family and friends.
Notably, Ramzan, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
The Muslims follow a lunar calendar and wait for the appearance of full moon to celebrate the festival towards the end of the holy month.
It is also believed to be the most sacred month when the first verses of the holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad.
Muslims fast (keep Roza) every day for an entire month.
They abstain from food and water from dawn to dusk.
They devote more time to prayer, religious activities and charity.
It is believed that fasting instills patience and humility.
It is also believed that Ramzan is a time to fast for the sake of God, ask forgiveness for the past sins committed and simultaneously ask for Allah’s guidance in the future.
