Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials today arrested one Nagendranath Swain, Project Associate, in the office of Project Implementing Agency, Baliguda in Kandhamal district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant for generating Muster Roll and processing the bills towards payment for execution of Farm Ponds under MGNREG Scheme by four beneficiaries of village Dupi and Edipadar under Tumudibandha block.
Based on the above complaint, the anti-corruption agency laid a trap today wherein the accused Swain was caught by Vigilance officials at Kutumgarh near Shiva temple, Tumudibandha while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant, said an official press release.
The entire bribe money was recovered from Swain’s possession and seized in presence of witnesses.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched on the residence of Swain at Prakruti Nagar, Phulbani and his office chamber at Baliguda.
Accused Swain has been arrested and will be forwarded to the court. Vigilance has registered a case under section 7 of PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 against Swain and is under investigation.
