Berhampur: A team of Excise Department officials today recovered Rs 32 lakh in cash from a passenger of a private bus near Lanjipalli bypass road.
The passenger who was travelling en route to Cuttack from Berhampur has been detained at Baidyanathpur police station here.
“Under instructions from Excise Commissioner Ashish Kumar Singh in view of Dusherra we were keeping a close eye on trafficking of ganja and other narcotics and psychotropic substances. While conducting a search in one Binapani bus we found a passenger carrying a huge amount of cash. We detained him and asked about the cash since he could not give a satisfactory reply and on instructions of Excise Commissioner we have handed over the person concerned and the said cash to IIC, Baidyanathpur police station,” informed Hrudaya Chandra Samanta, IIC Excise, Berhampur.
Samanta said that while they were conducting the search cash amounting to Rs 32-33 lakh was found in his bag.
He is a man from Kolkata, Samanta added.
