Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance officials today arrested the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Gudvela block in Bolangir district Binod Kumar Naik while he was allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,80,000 from a contractor.
Naik, belonging to Odisha Administrative Service (OAS)-1(Jr) had allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 for a previously executed work of Gudvela block and Rs 1,50,000 to assign new work of estimated cost of Rs 30 lakh in the block, said an official press note.
Vigilance officials have recovered and seized Rs 1,80,000 from Naik’s possession, the press note added.
Following the trap, Vigilance has launched simultaneous searches at three locations of Naik from disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
The Vigilance has registered a case against Naik under section 7 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018.
Further investigation in the matter is underway, the press note stated.
