Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court on Friday directed the Crime Branch (CB) to take over the case of aspiring model Soumya Ranjan Panigrahi’s death. The CB has been asked to file a report within three months.
The order came after the HC heard the petition of Soumya’s sister, who alleged that even after the High Court directed the DCP to expedite investigation and update the family members about the probe, no such response came from the police.
On January 30, 2021, Soumya, an aspiring model, allegedly died by suicide in Kalarahanga under Infocity police limits here. He was found hanging in his residence and a note, purportedly written by him, had been recovered from the spot.
The letter had named a girl with whom Soumya was reportedly in a relationship. Soumya’s family held the girl responsible for the death and his sister had filed a complaint with Infocity police in this regard.
