Sambalpur: In the wake of a violent clash during a bike rally, between two groups here on Wednesday, the district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 (1) under CrPC.
Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sambalpur Sadar, Pravash Chandra Dandasena ordered imposition of Section 144 (1), ‘for immediate prevention and safeguard of life of general public’.
The prohibitory orders were clamped on the basis of a report from the SDPO, Sadar, which stated – the occurrence of a breach of peace, law and order situation in Sambalpur town, Dhanupali, Khetrajpur, Ainthapali, Bareipali and Sadar areas of the city.
“Any such assembly and gathering of more than two or any effort to create a public nuisance to prevent public tranquility and peave to be unlawful within the vicinity of that entire area,” the SDM’s order stated.
At least 10 police personnel including an Additional SP and two IICs sustained grievous injuries in the clash during which stone-pelting was intense. Two bikes were set on fire and a car was vandalised by the rioters in the incident.
