Keonjhar: A youth was shot dead in broad daylight in Badbil in the Keonjhar district of Odisha on Monday. The incident took place near the Mini Tower in ward No. 6 of Barbil.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Sinha, a resident of Ward No. 6 of Badbil Municipal Council.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the youth was returning home on his bike this morning. Suddenly, unidentified bike-borne miscreants opened fire at him in a busy area.
On being informed, Badbil police arrived at the spot, seized the body, and sent it for post-mortem. The police have also launched an investigation to identify the criminals and find the motive behind the killing.
The police have recovered an empty bullet from the spot, said reports.
While the police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime, it is suspected to be a fall-out of political rivalry as Sunil was an active member of the BJD.
This is the second such crime in the region. On April 8 this year, an employee of the Orissa Minerals Development Company Limited (OMDC) was shot dead in Champua. The body of the OMDC employee was spotted by the locals and recovered near an electric grid under Badbil police limits.
The deceased employee had been identified as Dushashan Barik.
