Bhubaneswar: The Utkal University in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar has slipped from A+ to A in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grading. To secure an A, the university could score a 3.16 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the assessment. The varsity was last accredited as A+ in an assessment by NAAC in 2016.
In fact, Utkal University secured an A+ in 2016 and was striving to get A++ this time. A 5-member NAAC team visited the university in April and inspected the facilities to assess quality and standards.
The NAAC facilitates volunteering institutions to assess their performance vis-à-vis various parameters, including curricular aspects, teaching-learning & evaluation, research, innovations & extension, infrastructure & learning resources, student support & progression, governance, leadership & management, institutional values & best practices to grade educational institutions.
Higher education institutions, with a record of at least two batches of graduated students, or in existence for six years, whichever is earlier, are eligible to apply for the Assessment and Accreditation (A&A) of NAAC.
